Las Vegas Strip traffic to increase by more than 20 percent

Seven new casino-hotel projects planned to be built in Las Vegas Strip are expected to boost traffic by more than 20 percent.

Projection provided by the Regional Transportation Commission claims that the new projects planned to be built in the next four years will boost daily traffic by nearly 54,000 autos. Current traffic already carries about 225,000 vehicles per day.

In order to meet the demands for all those new cars, the Regional Transportation Commission is proposing replacing the landscaped median on Las Vegas Boulevard South from Sunset Road to Sahara Avenue or beyond with bus-only lanes and express bus stops no sooner than 2014.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, or RTC, is a regional government agency which performs transportation activities within the Southern Nevada community. The RTC was created in 1965 by state statute and in the 1980s, two significant designations were bestowed upon the RTC.
