Harrah's Entertainment is suing over ownership of the WSOP.com domain

Binion Horseshoe Casino's former information technology director, Federico Schiavio, is being sued by Harrah's Entertainment over the possession of the valuable domain name WSOP.com.

Harrah's claims that the domain name should belong to them, even though Schiavio bought the domain a long time ago, since they bought Binion's with the purpose of profiting off of the World Series of Poker.

Harrah's claims it owns the name "World Series of Poker," and that a patent on the name "WSOP" has also been filled. Because of this, Harrah's claims that Schiavio's Web site should also become their property.

The results of this case could be a land mark in internet domain history, although it is not clear what will the end result be. Typically this type of case would be won by Harrah's if they were fighting over a domain that was blatantly stealing from their name brand. In this case however, the domain name is not related to Harrah's and Harrah's does not 'own' the World Series of Poker.
