Gamblers in the UK are already planning on purchasing roulette-cheating machines - which consist of a small digital time recorder, a concealed computer and a hidden earpiece - next year, when the gambling industry will be deregulated
The devices were tested at a government laboratory in 2004, following a £1.3 million win at the Ritz casino in London by a gang who is suspected of using them.
This technology can provide gamblers an edge when playing roulette in a casino, and the advantage can be quite considerable. The devices, instead of being banned (and that are outlawed in many countries around the world) will be legal, so, according to the gambling commission, will require the casinos to police themselves.
The commission has also confirmed that it is advising casinos to refuse to pay gamblers who were caught using predictive devices, which will require them to take legal action in order to receive their winnings.
The device consists of a clicker that records the deceleration speed of the rotor and ball, a remote computer device which is concealed inside a mobile phone or an MP3 player, and an earpiece that instructs a player which zone the ball will land in. The edge that the gambler gets over the casino is said to be between 20% and 100%, while the normal casino edge over the players stands at 2.7%.
