Thomas "Amarillo Slim" Preston, the former World Series of Poker champion narrowly escaped an armed-robbery attempt on Wednesday morning.
Police reported that a yellow car cut off Preston's car and forced it to stop near the curb. The robber then got out of his car, pulled out a gun and demanded Preston to give him money. Preston however did not comply and responded by putting his gear in reverse in an attempt to escape.
In return, the robber fired three shots at Preston, two of them hitting the side of his car. Preston himself was unharmed in the incident. Following the shooting, the robber returned to his own car and continued to chase Preston for a few minutes. Eventually Preston evaded him and called the police but so far no arrests have been made.
A film based on Preston's career, entitled "Amarillo Slim", is currently being developed and will be directed by Milos Forman and starring Nicholas Cage as Thomas "Amarillo Slim" Preston.
