A protest against the recent Internet Gambling Prohibition Bill will be held in Washington D.C. on Monday, October 9th. The bill is expected to be signed on Friday the 13th by President Bush but the protestors, according to organizer Debbie Richardson, are asking him to reconsider and believe that this protest can change many things.
According to Richardson, the Port Security Bill (to which the gambling bill is attached) is an important bill that will no doubt be signed by Bush. However, the President may remove the added bill and send it back to Congress. This will mean that the bill would be debated separately from the Port Security Bill and have a better chance of being revoked.
As the organizer of the protest Richardson stressed that the protest must take place on Friday, so that President Bush has enough time to consider the strong opposition to the bill. Also, the fact that the press will be in Washington D.C. to cover the Columbus Day festivities obviously makes it a perfect time for the cause.
Demonstrators will meet in front of the Washington Monument on Monday, October 9th at 9am est. A large turn out is expected.
