Almost 3,000 people had their first glance this Sunday at the new French Lick Springs Resort Casino, in French Lick, Indiana, U.S.
The $382 million casino hosted an open house on Sunday, but the hotel is sold out Friday and Saturday for the official grand opening.
Visitors to the casino said it is impressive and hope that it will better the financial situation of the area. The resort has more than 400 rooms and suites, a dozen restaurants, and spa that used the ancient spring water that the place where the resort is located is famous for. Hopes are that the casino will generate 1,000 jobs for the people of the area which suffers from a high unemployment rate, and many millions in revenue.
The opening of the casino comes after a legal dispute between its developers. Orange County Holdings LLC, run by the son of Bloomington billionaire William Cook, and Indianapolis-based Lauth Property Group formed Blue Sky Casino LLC last November and signed a long-term contract with the gaming commission to open the casino by late this year.
The partners have waged a bitter legal dispute about spending, ownership interests and the role of Cook. An Orange County judge recently ordered the partners to resolve their disputes through arbitration, and the process of selecting a panel of three arbitrators is under way.
