Kerzner International, a Bahamas-based casino operator, plans the world's biggest aquarium, stocked with beluga whales and manta rays, as part of its $3.33 billion bid to build Singapore's second casino resort.
Tobin Prior, president of Kerzner's international division, said that the aquarium would be bigger than SeaWorld in Florida, currently the largest water-based theme park in the world with 19 million gallons of water. The planned aquarium will be built at the entertainment resort island of Sentosa with 24.2 gallons.
The aquarium will have a mixture of live marine animals and robotic aquatic creatures, which can be seen from underwater viewing tunnels.
Frank Gehry, architect of the Guggenheim Museum, was hired to design the resort, which will consist of two glass-and-steel structures that will simulate rippling sails.
Among the resort's other attractions are the world's largest jellyfish enclosure as well as a man-made coral reef.
The Kerzner-CapitaLand consortium is competing against two other bidders for the project, among them Genting Bhd and Melco International Development.
