Carta Mundi (Latin for "cards for the world"), the veteran Belgian playing card manufacturer, has issued special two separate collectible James Bond "Casino Royale" poker chip sets, as well as playing cards. The company also supplied the cards and chips used in the new James bond movie.
In Casino Royale, the latest and 21st film in the 007 saga, Bond faces Le Chiffre in a suspenseful game of high stakes Texas Holdem poker, which will determine the fate of his first mission and the fate of his nemesis.
Carta Mundi's headquarters and production centre is in Turnhout, Belgium, which has been a centre of playing card making since the early 19th century. The compact poker set that the company made for collectors and poker players contains 150 chips and they have also made a luxury set with 200 chips. The products bear the Casino Royale logo used in the movie. The chip denominations are 75 x $5, 75 x $24, 25 x $100, 25 x $500 and each set costs about ₤60.
Bert Van Pelt, Carta Mundi's business unit manager, said that they are proud that a Belgian company is able to contribute to the success of the world-famous Bond films. Pelt added that he hopes that the publicity generated by Casino Royale will improve the image of Carta Mundi and poker's image in general.
Carti Mundi was also involved with the previous Bond film, Die Another Day.
