Senegal's Consulate in Singapore Turns to an Illegal Casino

An illegal gambling den has been uncovered in Singapore. It was located, of all places, in the consulate of the West African state of Senegal. The daily stakes were reported to have reached $640,000.

During the day the consulate was dealing with official business and issuing visas and during the night it hosted 100 gamblers who played Baccarat around three tables. The minimum bet was $60 and the maximum bet was $19,000. The "high rollers room" had stakes of up to $30,000.

Diplomatic relations between Senegal and Singapore were established relations in 1999. However, the Senegal had only set up a consular mission in the city-state this January. Benny Kusni, an Indonesian businessman appointed consul for the African nation last December, has not returned home since a police raid on the consulate Friday night.

Singapore lifted its long-standing ban on casino gambling in order to boost the tourism and services sectors. Running an illegal casino is punishable with a maximum fine of $30,000 and up to three years in jail under Singapore law.

It's amazing how low they can get

Politicians can do whatever they want and get away with it...
I have nothing against gambling of course but operating a casino in an embassy is just ludicrous. They need to arrest him simply to make an example out of him and to show that politicians are not above the law!
