The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in northern New York has revealed plans to expand the current casino it operates into an entertainment resort. The new project includes building a 400-room hotel and an 850-seat multi-purpose room. In addition to this, the tribe will relocate the Mohawk Bingo Palace to the new resort as well.
The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino has been growing since it opened in 1999.
Since 2005, when the tribe received Governor George Pataki's approval of its gaming compact, they started expanding the gaming floor with more slot machines and has seen inflation in the amount of visitors.
The tribe and casino managers have planned to expand the casino for many years so that they would be able to bring in more players and to provide better accommodations for their guests. Many of the players, mostly Canadians, are forced to shorten their time at the casino in order to travel to back home to Canada.
Presently, the casino has earned the people of the tribe $o9 million and provides jobs to 700 people.
