A senior Pennsylvania state Democrat announced that he will introduce a legislation at the beginning of 2007 that would legalize table games, such as blackjack, poker and other games, in the state's recently opened casino and other planned casinos for early next year.
Pennsylvania State Representative Bill DeWeese, who serves as the House minority leader, confirmed that he is drafting a bill with the aim to turn the state's slots parlors into regular casinos. If the Democrats take control over the House, DeWeese will become the speaker of the House.
Under the planned bill, all 14 gambling venues that received licenses from the state will be able to operate table games in order to compete with surrounding states, such as West Virginia, which are also considering expanding from slot machines to full casino gambling.
The first slots parlor in Pennsylvania opened earlier this month. The Mohegan American Indian tribe of Connecticut who is the owner of the casino, spent $70 million to transform a former racing track to a casino with 1,000 slot and video poker machines, bars and restaurants.
