A Canadian man is suing the Nova Scotia province for his $500,000 gambling losses at the Nova Scotia Casino.

Paul Burrell, a resident of Sydney, Nova Scotia is suing the province for negligence and claims that it is responsible for his losses over a 3-year period.

Burrell has named 8 parties in his law suit which was filed with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court on Thursday. among them the Sydney Casino, the province of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corp.

Burrell said he gambled every day between January 2000 and February 2003 at the Sydney Casino and claims to have lost his $200,000 workers’ compensation settlement, family savings of $80,000 and about $200,000 from his mortgaged house and personal loans.

He claims that according to a section of the Gaming Control Act, the casino should have noticed his gambling addiction and prevent him from continuing to gamble. Burrell now seeks an apology and reimbursement from the casino.
