A complaint that was filed by online betting company, Sportwetten Gera against a ban on betting and gambling that the state of Saxony-Anhalt implemented two years ago, was dismissed by Germany's highest court.
According to Rainer Nitzschke, director of the German association of private sports betting companies, the company wanted to end the current ban but now that that their complaint has been rejected, customers from the state will be excluded from the Sportwetten Gera's services.
The complaint was rejected by Germany's Federal Constitutional Court due to the fact that the company did not suffer any major setbacks or disadvantage because of the ban, as stated on the court's Web site Thursday. The complaint was filed after Saxony-Anhalt's government ordered the company to stop accepting wagers in the region.
On March 28, the court ruled that Saxony-Anhalt can have their monopoly on the gambling industry remain in tact until the end of 2007. After that time, they will have to increase efforts to fight gambling addiction.
