Las Vegas Sands, one of the biggest gaming companies in the world, received yesterday a license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to build a slots parlor in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Also on Wednesday, Pinnacle Entertainment said it will not build the $800 million casino resort it had proposed the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for Philadelphia. Pinnacle was one of five candidates for two casino licenses in the city. The licenses are for Category 2 license, which allows slot machines only.
Pinnacle abandoned its plan to build a casino entertainment center on the city's Delaware Riverfront, that included a 500-room hotel, 130,000-square-foot casino space and 5,000 parking spaces.
Meanwhile, rival Las Vegas Sands, which was granted the same Category 2 license, said it is planning a shopping, dining, and entertainment center with a 3,000 slot machines casino at the site of the former Bethlehem Steel plant.
