Bodog, one of the biggest online poker rooms, has dropped World Series of Poker 2006 champion Jamie Gold from its team of professional poker players. Other high profile players such as David Williams, Josh Arieh, and Evelyn Ng, currently remain on the Bodog team.
Bodog are shifting their marketing focus to Europe and Asia after the United States effectively banned online gambling in November. The gambling site has decided to stop its offline marketing in the U.S. and therefore has no need for Gold.
A Bodog spokesman said in a press release yesterday that "In light of its decision to cease all offline marketing initiatives in the U.S., and instead refocus its efforts on growing its entertainment brand in Europe and Asia, Bodog has ended its business relationship with Jamie Gold. Bodog has enjoyed our association with Mr. Gold and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Gold remains the only WSOP champion since 2001 without a deal with an online poker room. The famous three champions, Hachem, Raymer and Moneymaker, are all signed up with Pokerstars.
Gold is still in court over his winnings from the WSOP 2006. After he won the $12 million cash prize he was sued by Crispin Leyser, an associate who accused him of promising him, prior to the tournament, half of the prize, should he win.
