British Gang Cheats Casinos Out of £250,000

A gang of gamblers from Britain attempted to cheat casino out of more than £250,000 using sophisticated James Bond-style equipment that enabled them to see what cards are being dealt.

The gang, two men and a woman, played three-card poker in about six casinos in the London area while one would use a micro-camera, hidden in his sleeve or briefcase, pointed towards the dealer. The images were transmitted to a van outside the casino, where a second person would determine which cards were dealt. That information was given to a third person, the gambler, which placed bets accordingly.

Casino security staff became suspicious when a small white Ford van was spotted on a number of occasions close to other casinos in the weeks before the gang was arrested. They alerted police and the Metropolitan Police's Gaming Unit started their investigation.

Yau Yiu Lam, 45, Bit Chai Wong, 39 and Fan Leung Tsang, 41, were sentenced Monday, after they plead guilty one count of cheating, breaching the Gambling Act 1845. Lam was sentenced to nine months in prison while his accomplices were given nine-month suspended sentences and 150 hours community service.
