A casino in Los Angeles avoided a major problem and possible lawsuits after the casino sent out letters to customers with a printing error that promised them much more money than the promotion intended to.
Diamond Jack’s, one of the newest casinos in Bossier City, Los Angeles offered players on its mailing list up to 22 times more money than they were meant to receive during the promotion. The voucher was sent out to 24,000 customers before casino employees noticed the mistake and quickly sent out apology letters explaining what the customers are supposed to get, based on how much money they played previously.
According to Mike Thomas, Diamond Jack's marketing director, the letters were mailed to repeat visitors, based on a database the casino maintains. The casino conducts most of its marketing through direct mail.
Casino employees contacted the state police as soon as they found the error, since it regulates gaming and must approve changes to promotions.
Most of the customers are not complaining about the mistake but some have said that the casino should pay up what they promised anyway. Diamond Jack’s offered each of the customers who received the erroneous letter a free hotel room for one night and also a $30 voucher for any restaurant in the casino, as a gesture of apology.
