An Atlantic City woman won a personal jackpot on Saturday when she gave birth to a new baby boy at the Resorts Atlantic City.
Nyree Thompson, 32, who was eight-months pregnant, was on the casino floor when she went into labor around 9:30 a.m. She ignored the labor pains at first, thinking it was gas, but after she went to the bathroom she informed a security guard that she might be giving birth.
Thompson was helped by four security guards until paramedics arrived. They wrapped the newborn, which weigh less than 5 pounds, in a jacket. She and her new son, Qualeem, were taken to a hospital and are doing well.
Steve Callender, vice president of operations at Resorts, who has worked at Resorts since it opened in 1978, said the birth was a first for the casino as far as he knew.
"We've had people die here," said Callender, "but we've never had people born here."
