A British gambling addict, who broke into his own neighbours' homes in search of money to fund his habit, was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Christpoher Baker, a 25-year-old man from Waterbeach in Cambridgeshire, Britain, stole more than £31,000 worth of property in 17 raids, most of them to homes just yards from his own home.

One home was even looted twice by Baker, who walked away with £4,000 worth of laptops and jewelry. He usually conducted his raids during the daytime when he knew the residents would be at work. Baker had robbed a total of eight homes, four of which were in his own street.

In a letter to the judge, father-to-be Baker described his spiraling gambling addiction, which led to his rich criminal record (10 convictions for 51 previous offenses). He admitted two charges of burglary and an attempted burglary but asked for 20 other offenses to be taken into consideration.
