An Indiana senator tried to persuade police officers to stop a raid on an illegal gambling house in Indianapolis last week.
Sen. Glenn Howard arrived at the site of the illegal gambling operation on Friday night and tried to convince the officers to ignore the operation's "pea shake" games (games which involve small pots). According to a police report, Howard said, "I know it's illegal, but they don't hurt anybody."
Howard said he supports those involved in these sort games. He intervened on behalf of another pea-shake operation two years ago, and protested the fact that police were stopping people who were leaving the site.
Police found illegal gambling equipment in the home during the raid, confiscated more than $5,000 and arrested Lance Howard, who is not related to Glenn Howard. The Marion County prosecutor's office is considering filing charges against Lance Howard following the arrest on charges of running an illegal gambling operation.
