UK Casinos Launch Legal Fight against New Casinos

The top casinos in the United Kingdom have hired the services of law firm Herbert Smith to initiate a legal fight which will enable them to compete with the 17 upcoming casinos that the government announced last week.

The firm will study the possibility of a judicial review of the new casino licenses, which according to them creates unfair competition. Unlike existing casinos, which operate under the restricting 1968 Gaming Act, the new 17 casinos, including the new Las Vegas-style super-casino in Manchester, will able to offer a many more slot machines and game tables.

The British Casino Association wants to challenge the government's rule that the country’s 138 existing casinos will not be permitted to operate more gaming tables and slot machines in the near future.

The largest casino operators in the United Kingdom are Rank, Gala, Stanley Leisure and London Clubs International and despite their worries about unfair competition, they all intend to apply for a majority of the new licenses created by the government.
