Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, Missouri, was sued by seven gamblers on Tuesday, who claim that the casino cheated them out of money, food and other benefits they deservedin the casino's rewards program.
According to Arthur G. Muegler Jr., the gambers' attorney, if the law suit is certified as a class action it could affect between 100,000 to 300,000 customers of Ameristar Casino. The suit is seeking actual and punitive damages on the sum of $150,000 and also names Las Vegas-based Ameristar Casinos Inc.
Vice President and Assistant General of Ameristar casino St. Charles, Mark Van Buren, said his casino did not deceive customers and that the suit is without merit.
The suit claims that around August 1, 2006, Ameristar Casino revised its program regarding earning points playing video poker machines. The program allows customers that earn these points to convert them into food, cash and other perks.
The original program offered one point for every $2 to $8 spent on video poker machines. The revised program, however, required gamblers to bet $8 to $16 to get one point. The suit says that the casino didn't tell customers about this change.
