A gambler has been ordered to pay more than $3.85 million to a London casino due to a bounced check.
Fouad al-Zayat, known as "The Fat Man", is a Syrian-born businessman who lives in Cyprus. He visited Aspinall's, an elite and private casino in London, on 600 occasions in the past 12 years.
Over the years he had wagered $175 million and lost $44 million. In one Blackjack session in March 2000, al-Zayat lost $3.85 million and after he failed to pay the gambling bill, the club sued him.
Al-Zayat is known as a casino whale that bets more than $1 million every time he sits at a cards table. He said that at the night in question he was unhappy with the casino's refusal to change a dealer during the blackjack and so failed to date the check on purpose to force the two sides to negotiate.
