Casino Sues Underage Gambler to Recoup Fine

The Riverside Casino & Golf Resort near Iowa City, Iowa, is suing an underage gambler to recoup a fine the casino paid for allowing that same underage person to gamble.

Tuyet Nhung C. Nguyen gambled at the Riverside on October 19, at the age of 19. According to the lawsuit, Nguyn, of Cedar Rapids, used a driver's license of someone who was 21 to get into the casino.

The legal age to gamble at an Iowa casino is 21, and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission fined the casino $20,000 for letting Nguyn gamble.

Wes Ehrecke, president of the Iowa Gaming Association said that he has never heard of any casino suing an underage gambler. Thee lawsuit claims that the casino believed Nguyen was 21 and that the fine was a "direct result of the defendant's fraudulent acts."

In November, Nguyen was found guilty of unlawful use of a license and was fined $75. She also pleaded guilty to underage gambling and fined $500.
