A district court judge in China was arrested this month and charged with running an illegal gambling operation.
According to a local newspaper, Chinese police ended Judge Feng Jianxiang's lucrative sideline business when armed police officers raided his gambling den and arrested 122 people.
The report quoted one resident who cast a light on how the operation was able to go on for so long. The judge of the Lishi District court in north China's Shanxi province ran the illegal casino under the protection of local law officials. Only an outside police force was able to end the operation.
"He was tied in too close to the local law and order departments, and that's how he was able to brazenly run a casino for over a year," the local man said.
The illegal casino operated 650 feet from the local police station.
