A petition drive has been started to recall Bob Levy the mayor of the resort town.
The action was initiated because of recent events during his current term.
Citing several reasons that he has become an embarrassment for the town on the national scene, a group calling itself ‘the committee to recall Bob Levy’ has been formed.
One of the reasons cited was in the last year it came to light that Levy had misled the public as to his Army service which supposedly included service in the ‘Green Berets’ the U.S. Army’s elite fighting unit.
Another reason included his close ties to former city councilman Craig Calloway
who last summer pleaded guilty to bribe taking and is to be sentenced this month.
A third reason is a complaint that Levy has taken excessive time off for unspecified health reasons.
Levy won the 2005 election with approximately 60% of 5350 votes cast. To successfully recall the mayor 25% of the registered voters in the town would have to sign the petition or approximately 6200 signatures are needed.
Quoting The Press of Atlantic City in a radio interview Levy responded to a caller’s question.,Levy said he has support in the community. “I saw the individuals that are involved,” Levy replied, “and I am not concerned about it whatsoever.”
