World Series of Poker 2007 Plans for 10,000 Players

The World Series of Poker keeps on growing each year. The organizers of the WSOP are preparing the tournament to an estimated number of 10,000 entrants to the 2007 main event.

Last year there were 8,773 participants, 14 percent less than the numbers expected in 2007. The numbers are likely to increase this year, despite the U.S. crackdown on online gambling and the fact that many of last year's entrants qualified for the tournament online.

However, organizers said that they are planning for 10,000 participants, even though they are not confident that last years number would be topped. Organizers plan to build a structure near the Rio casino-hotel in Las Vegas, where the tournament takes place each year, and increase the number of tables to 258.

That will enable more than 3,000 players to play the first three days of the main event.

A higher number of players will also offer the winner a larger prize than last year's $12 million.
