Talks between two of the biggest online gambling companies in the world about a possible buyout, ended on Monday.
888.com, one of the biggest online casino in the world and Ladbrokes, one of Europe's major sports betting companies, have announced Monday, April 23, that they have amicably ended their merger talks.
Ladbrokes and 888.com have been discussing a possible merger since October 2006. Following the crisis in the online gambling market brought on by the American Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which made it illegal for online gambling sites to accept U.S. residents as customers, the discussions had encountered difficulties.
Shares of Gibraltar-based 888.com, owner of Pacific Poker, fell in response to the announcement, dropping 5.7 percent to $2.31 on the London Stock Exchange. Ladbrokes shares, however, went up just over 1 percent.
