Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort, the smallest casino in Atlantic City is facing a major upgrade. Rumors have circulated for months and the Hilton revealed on Wednesday its plans for a massive $1 billion renewal.

The Hilton casino is facing competition from the giant casinos that dominate Atlantic City and Hilton's answer for that is expansion and renovation. The renewal will transform the casino into a mega resort that has the potential of being the biggest attraction of the southern tip of the Boardwalk.

The expansion is estimated at between $1 billion and $1.2 billion, which is the price tag on the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, which opened in 2003.

The renewal includes the building of a 1,000-room hotel tower and double the casino floor's size from 60,000 to 120,000 square feet. New restaurants, retail shops and a 3,500-seat entertainment facility will also be added to the hotel along with a 3,000-space parking lot.
