A professional poker player from Las Vegas was stabbed to death on Friday in his Panorama Towers apartment, west of the Las Vegas Strip. His wife faces murder charges.
William Gustafik, a 44-year-old former chiropractor, was found stabbed to death in his luxury high-rise condominium. His wife, Jill Rockcastle, 49, was hospitalized in San Luis Obispo on Monday after she was found in a motel room. Her condition is critical but stable.
According to police, Rockcastle stabbed Gustafik several times in the midst of a domestic feud that the couple had on Friday night. Following an anonymous phone tip, police found Gustafik's body in the apartment's bedroom.
Gustafik became a professional poker player at the 2005 World Series of Poker. He continued to attend in World Poker Tour and World Poker Series of Poker circuits. He won $38,759 in the 2006 WSOP, where he finished 280th out of 8,773 players in the $10,000 buy-in Main Event.
In an online player profile, Gustafik described himself as a devoted husband and loving father to a 9-year-old daughter. He also said that If he could change anything in the world it would be that "my wife would play live and not just online even though she wins".
