The Stratosphere casino in Las Vegas, along with three other casinos in southern Nevada will be sold for $1.3 billion by billionaire investor Carl Icahn to an affiliate of the Goldman Sachs investment firm.
American Real Estate Properties, which is a unit within Icahn's American Real Estate Partners also sold the affiliate, Whitehall Street Real Estate Funds, 17 acres of undeveloped land near the Stratosphere.
The sale, which was announced on Monday, includes the Aquarius Casino Resort in Laughlin and two off-strip Arizona Charlie's casinos.
The Stratosphere is the tallest structure west of the Mississippi. It includes 2,444 rooms and the Stratosphere Tower (1,149 foot). The Aquarius, formerly the Flamingo Laughlin, has about 1,900 rooms and is one of the largest hotels in Laughlin, 100 miles south of Las Vegas.
The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the year, pending approval by Nevada gambling regulators.
