Yesterday, April 11, the Tropicana Casino and other defendants settled lawsuits in the 2004 collapse of a garage being constructed for their themed entertainment center ‘The Quarter’. The accident caused the death of four construction workers with injuries to 32 other workers.
The settlement which is reported as being 101 million dollars is the largest settlement of its kind in history. The settlement goes to the family survivors and injured workers.
There were sixteen defendants of which the Tropicana and the main contractor being chief defendants.
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) had reported that investigations revealed improper construction procedures were followed stemming from practices designed to speed construction of the project.
