A bomb went off early Monday morning at the Luxor Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, killing one man, a hotel employee, who picked it up.
According to police, the man picked up the home-made device from atop a car in the casino's parking garage at around 4 a.m. when it exploded. The explosion was apparently a murder and not a terrorist act.
The victim of the blast is believed to be the intended target. No threats have been made against the Luxor casino. Another casino employee barely avoided injury when the bomb went off.
The Spokesman for MGM Mirage Imc., owner of the Luxor, Gordon Absher, said that he could not conform that the person who dies in the explosion was a Luxor employee.
The blast did no damage to the casino itself but shrapnel penetrated nearby vehicles, and pieces of the bomb were scattered across the parking lot. Following the explosion, entrances were sealed and authorities checked every vehicle with bomb-sniffing dogs.
