Police in Jiangsu Province, China, shut down an online casino that held 4 billion Yuan ($519 million) in bets.

During a raid in the province police arrested 37 members of the gang who ran the operation. Also arrested were 5 shareholders of the company that ran the casino and 7 other members of the company. Police also seized 4 million Yuan ($500,000) in illicit money and 17 vehicles in their raid.

The company operated for 2 years and had thousands of members across China. The Public Security Bureau of Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province uncovered a netizen (a person actively involved in online communities) who was identified as Chen, who frequently logged on 13 overseas gambling Websites using various accounts in 2006. Police officers noticed that the total odds betting via different accounts had reached 4 billion Yuan since last January.

Police got evidence from Chen's laptop computer, including weekly financial reports for betting and gains which he later confessed to have produced for 2 seniors of the company.
