Poker is back on the silver screen with Lucky You, a new poker film starring Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore.
The movie was scheduled for release in September 2006, then postponed for a March 2007 release and finally the date was set to May 4.
Lucky You tells the story of Huck Cheever, a young high stakes cash player, played by Eric Bana. Cheever is trying to win the 2003 WSOP taking advantage of his amazing luck at poker tables. His life outside the poker table is empty and joyless but then he meets Las Vegas singer, Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore)
The 2-hour movie is directed by Curtis Hanson, who also directed 8 Miles and L.A. Confidential and In Her Shoes, and written by Eric Roth, who wrote Munich (also starring Bana).
Instead of focusing on poker's on the game's underbelly, as the game and the poker world is portrayed in Rounders, Hanson chose a different approach and looks at as a metaphor for human relationships, business, and other things in life. Hanson's company, and this is no coincidence, is called Deuce Three Productions.
