Online Gambling Con Man Sentenced to 10 Years

A Texas man was sentenced Friday to ten years in prison for an online gambling fraud scam that took advantage of 41 mainly elderly and retired victims.

Robert Eon Marshall, 58, from Fort Worth, Texas, was also ordered by the court to pay back $1 million in restitution. He pleaded guilty in January to mail fraud.

Marshall was the founder and president of Fort Worth-based ECM Group and operated the online gambling sites Double Your Money Casino.com and World Poker Party.com, which linked to two other online gambling sites.

Marshall sold ownership in his company for $10,000 per unit, but according to authorities, the program generated the company less than $1,000 in revenue. Despite this, he told investors in 2003 and 2004 the company was doing very well and mailed fake financial reports to encourage them to invest more funds. Dozens of victims, mostly elderly, lost more than $900,000.
