Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, has passed the Gambling Control Bill Act 2007 which will allow for controlled online and offline gambling to take place. Somare said that the new act aims bring the gambling industry in the country under one legislative and administrative framework.
The proposed act will issue ten year gambling licenses. It is likely that casino and online gambling sites operators will be taxed 20 percent of gross profit and another five percent of gross profits donated to the community for various functions.
The Act also creates the National Gaming Control Board to control all gaming operations in Papua New Guinea.
The small country of Papua New Guinea a population of 5.9 million has strong ties with its southern neighbor, Australia and even shares the same head of state, Queen Elizabeth II.
