On Friday, casino dealers at the Trump Marina Casino handed the UAW its first defeat in efforts to organize dealers at the casinos in Atlantic City.
Two casinos, Caesars And Trump Marina, had chosen union representation by over 2 to 1 margins.
Early reports of the Marina vote are that the UAW was defeated by a 183-175 vote.
According to sources within the UAW, a substantial majority of dealers had signed authorization cards. Claims were made that the dealers were intimidated by management which in turn was denied by the latter.
The next vote is scheduled June 2nd at Bally's Casino. The Hilton Casino has filed a petition for a vote. The UAW has stated an intent to organize all the dealers in the resort.
