Wynn's Dealers Vote to Unionize Despite Plea from Hotel Magnate

Wynn admitted to making a "big mistake" with a program that allowed supervisors to share the tips of the dealers. This vote followed months of debate over the tip-sharing program that caused unrest among the casino's dealers.

The "big mistake" was reflected in the vote with 449 in favor of union representation and 149 opposed. The dealers exercised their right to be represented by the Transportation Workers Union of America and the official vote was supervised by the National Labor Relations Board.

Wynn implemented the tip sharing program last September in an attempt to balance the wages between dealers and supervisors. Previously, a disparity had many dealers earning more than their supervisors. Critics of the program argued that Wynn should have raised the salary of the supervisors because the program allegedly caused dealers to lose thousands of dollars per year in tips.

During a 20-minute plea to the dealers, Wynn admitted that the program was a bad idea and took full responsibility for the idea. He also said that he couldn't make promises to try and influence votes but he hinted at eliminating the tip pooling program. Even with the plea, Wynn's full time dealers voted with an almost 3-1 margin in favor of unionization.
