888 Holdings PLC, operator of Casino-on-Net and Pacific Poker, is taking similar action to rival PartyGaming by holding talks with U.S. authorities regarding the company's status in the country.
888 has initiated preliminary discussions with the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York to determine whether the company could face prosecution for taking bets in the U.S. prior to the enactment of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in October 2006.
Yesterday, PartyGaming announced that they have initiated talks with the same Attorney's Office and responded voluntarily to its request for information.
Last week, 888 said the company's trading is in accordance with expectations after an encouraging start to the financial year in its non-US markets. Yesterday, 888 shares closed at 116 pence.
