Dennis Gomes, former chief executive of the Tropicana Casino and Resort, is in talks
seeking to buy Donald Trump’s casinos. Gomes has been out of the casino business for three years now but wants to get back in.
Gomes had entered the industry first as a gaming regulator in Nevada and New Jersey.
In his career he worked for both Steve Wynn and Donald Trump.
Gomes, who is a black belt in the martial arts, was known for his personality and for clever promotional stunts. One such stunt was the tic-tac-toe chicken employed as an inducement to visit the Tropicana. Players beating the chicken received a $10,000 prize. The chicken won almost every time. Gomes was the driving force behind the development of ‘The Quarter’
Gomes was part of an unsuccessful conglomerate that tried to win a Pennsylvania gaming license. His heart, however, is in Atlantic City. In a statement in the Atlantic City Press he mentioned the unbelievable potential of Atlantic City saying he loved the town.
