The Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City slashed additional positions in the last week.

The total was 55 employees comprising mostly supervisory positions were mainly table game and slot supervisors. The vice president of junket operations was let go after being hired in January of this year.

The layoffs from the January acquired property of the Columbia Sussex Corporation has drawn the ire of the casino control commission and local legislators.

According to public records the number of employees has shrunk from 4,507 to 3,816 as of early June.

Tropicana’s revenue from slots and table games has dropped over 7 percent. The entire Atlantic City market has suffered a loss so far this year due to increased competition.

Declines in the slot department have partially been due to construction disruptions.

The layoff of the vice-president of junket operations may precede the end of flights from outlying states. Most casinos rely to a certain degree on junkets and the end of a junket program may precede a change in the marketing strategy of the Tropicana Casino.
