The Tropicana casino and Resort recently in the news for layoffs comprising approximately 15% of its work force launched a new junket program today.
The casino partnering with the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and Lion Trailways today started the first of three-days-a-week junkets ferrying players from Lewes, Delaware to Cape May, New Jersey.
From Cape May the players travel by motor coach to the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City. The price of the roundtrip ferry and motor coach trip is only $7.00. The Tropicana feels this is an excellent way to market their property to these neighboring states considering the price of gas.
This innovative program follows in the dismissal of the vice-president of junket operations at the Latin themed casino, as reported last week.
Players arrive at the ferry in Lewes Delaware before 7 A.M. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. From the Cape May Landing point they are ferried directly to the casino. At 6:00 P.M. the ferry leaves from Cape May. The program is currently expected to run through August 30th.
This appears to be a win-win-win situation for the casino, ferry and bus line.
The Tropicana appeals to a segment of the market in an innovative manner and perhaps under a sole contract with the ferry Company.
The ferry now benefits with increased traffic on the northbound leg of its route. The ferry has long been known for ferrying jersey residents to the outlet centers located in the Lewes area. Lion Trailways now has an additional route under contract with the Tropicana.
