The European Commission said it has instructed the French government to amend its proposed law regarding online gambling to allow foreign gambling companies to operate in the country.
EU spokesman Ton Van Lierop said that last week the EU Commission sent a detailed recommendation to the French government regarding the draft law, whose purpose is to prevent foreign gaming operators from providing their services on the French market.
According to the commission, the law violates article 49 of the EU treaty about the free provision of services.
France has a one month ultimatum, until August 24, to amend the draft law. Failing to do so will force the EU to take the French government to court.
