Caesars Palace will pay $850,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by kitchen workers in the famous Las Vegas casino resort.
Seven female workers and one male supervisor complained that supervisors forced the woman to have sex with them in a room which they had used specifically for that purpose. The supervisors had threatened to fire the women, ranging in age from 19 to over 40, if they did not agree.
According to Federico Sayre, the lawyer for four of the women, the supervisors prepared a room in the kitchen area that had a bed, sometimes wine and they even decorated it to appear sexual.
The sexual acts began in 2000 and the women complained as early as 2001 to a human resources manager at the casino, but nothing was done by the manager, said Sayre, probably because she had a relationship with one of the men involved.
Under the settlement deal, Caesars Palace agreed to pay $850 000 to employees who had been harassed. Harrah's Entertainment Ltd. is the owner of the casino resort since June 2005. Alberto Lopez, Harrah's spokesman, said the supervisors were fired.
