Sheldon Adelson, Chairman of Las Vegas Sands Corp., the biggest casino operator in the world, is interested in opening casinos and resorts in India.

Adelson, said at the opening of the Venetian Macao in the former Portuguese colony, that opening casinos in India is a goal the company aspires to accomplish when possible by Indian law:

"We are very much interested in, one, attracting Indians to come to Macau, and two, establishing in India, when the government makes the necessary changes", Adelson said.

Responding to critics that said he might be overreacting, Adelson said: "There's absolutely no question about the viability of this project whatsoever. It's the job of the analysts to be skeptical. It's my job as an entrepreneur to be visionary.''

The new Venetian Macao is Asia's largest hotel - a 3,000 room resort with 870 gaming tables that cost $2.4 billion. It is also the first casino built on the Cotai Strip, between Macau's Coloane and Taipa Islands. Macau is the only place in China where casino gambling is legal.
