Tropicana Dealers Vote to Unionize

Saturday August 25th proved to be an unlucky day for the management at the Tropicana Casino and Resort.

Almost eighty percent of the casino dealers voted to unionize. As has been reported numerous times the Tropicana has been at the center of the maelstrom involving an ongoing consolidation of casinos in the United States.

The Tropicana has had over 16 percent of its work force terminated by Columbia Sussex Corporation that took over the property at the beginning of the year.

All departments at the Atlantic City casino hotel have suffered personnel losses. State elected officials have stepped into comment on the employee cuts. The casino control commission recently stepped in to stop the management from laying off additional security department employees.

Presented with the opportunity to have UAW representation the dealers voted overwhelmingly Saturday to have organized bargaining.

Recently the slot techs at Caesars voted to have the UAW represent them as well as the Caesars dealers, which are currently negotiating their first contract. It has been reported that the Trump Marina vote has been overturned on objection by the union with a new vote coming up with a stern warning to the Trump Marina management as to following legal procedures.

The dealers at Resorts International are evidently satisfied and inquiries with a number of individual dealers reveal that the managing company has made concessions and improvements. Resorts and the Atlantic City Hilton are both managed by Colony Capital Corporation.

The vote's final results were 626-157 in favor of UAW representation.
