Sixth place winner of the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event has been charged with gambling promotion, which could cost him most of the nearly $3 million he won during the WSOP.

Richard Henry Lee, 56, faces charges in his home town of San Antonio, Texas. Four men associated with him, including his 30-year-old son-in-law, Lawrence 'Larry' Joseph Davenport. The other three people named in the charges are Matthew Colburn Winslow, 57, Marco de Carlo Hernandez, 31, and Daniel Ortiz, 30.

They were also charged Thursday with the same misdemeanor offense. The charges carry a maximum term of up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

The gambling scheme had Lee using a website where players could bet on various sporting events. The website, which claimed to be based overseas, was in reality run out of Lee's house.
