The winner of the 2005 World Series of Poker Seniors Event, William Paul McKinney was arrested last week after police performed a gambling raid on the Hog Wild Saloon in Kingsport, Tenessee. McKinney is the second 2005 WSOP bracelet holder to be arrested in a poker raid – Maciek Gracz was arrested in similar circumstances in September after a raid in Benson, NC.
'Cigar' McKinney was one of 16 people to be arrested in the raid, where police also seized $19,000 in cash, poker chips, betting slips, and several decks of cards.
The owner of the establishment, Donnie Godsey, now faces aggravated gambling promotion charges. McKinney faces similar charges, as he is alleged to have been one of the games organizers, and is also believed to have run a bookmaking operation from within the poker room.
McKinney was found to be in possession of a number of pills at the time of the raid, and also faces one charge for possession of schedule III narcotics.
