The Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau: Asian Poker Open has started today, and will run until the 27th November. The tournament is being held at the Grand Waldo Casino on the island of Macau.
The Asia Pacific Poker Tour is the first No-Limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament to be held in Macau, and is also the first time a tournament of that kind will be played in the Peoples Republic of China.
The island of Macau is the only area in China where gambling is legal.
The six day event features a $2,500 US buy-in for the main event, and a $15,000 buy-in for the "High roller" event. The prize pool for the main event has been estimated at $600,000, with the champion taking away a first prize of a potential $170,000.
The Asian Poker Open is a key part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, which is an annual series of tournaments held across the region.
The tournament includes players such as Scotty Nguyen – the WSOP main event winner of 1998, and Liz Lieu, another talented high profile Asian poker player.
Sarne Lightman, Director of Marketing for PokerStars Asia Pacific, said "Scotty and Liz are two of the highest profile Asian players in the world, so it's great to see them supporting the PokerStars.net APPT Macau."
